Each new program initiative goes through three stages of program development. As your cluster of churches or mission entity considers the possibility of developing a new discipleship-mission program, it is important to pray and seek direction from God in each stage. We offer the following suggestions to help you as you move through this process:

Stage 1—Explore:

• Get acquainted with the Alliance by reading this introductory booklet. Does the GDT model of Global Disciples vision match your vision and the needs of your cluster of churches or mission entity?

• Engage your church leaders in reviewing and discussing what the Alliance has to offer. Are they ready to explore developing a discipleship-mission training program with the GDT model?

• Contact a Global Disciples Facilitator or a Member Program director you know. What questions do you have? How and where could you learn more about GDT programs?

• Make a decision. If your cluster of churches or mission entity decides to develop a discipleship-mission program within the GDT model, are you ready and able to invest the required time and resources for this to occur? If so, write a letter of intent to the Facilitator in your region (see page 24).

• Discern who will direct the proposed program. Has this person had some experience in leading similar programs in your cluster of churches? Ask a Global Disciples Facilitator to provide criteria for selection of a program director.

Stage 2—Develop:

• Send your new program director to a Directors Training. Is your new program director able to invest 2 weeks for the GDT Directors Training?

• Discern and identify a possible Mentor from among GDT program directors, and discuss this with the regional Facilitator. Which GDT Program is most similar to the one you envision?

• Develop your program plan, with input from the Facilitator. How might you modify the program design to better fit your specific situation?

• Submit your program application. When the program director finishes the Directors Training, submit the program application for approval by your regional Facilitator.

Stage 3—Launch:

• Hold your first discipleship-mission training and outreach according to the GDT criteria and
according to your plan approved by Global Disciples. As a Candidate Program, how might you be learning from others?

• Invite your Facilitator or Mentor to visit and participate in your first few training sessions. Is your program on track to become a Member Program in the Alliance?

• Send the Director to the Annual Equipping Events and build relationships with other leaders. How can you continue to learn and benefit from the experiences of other directors and their programs?

• Discover the joy of working with others in the Alliance. What resources in the Alliance might help you or your program become more effective?

The GDT Member Programs of the Alliance have identified the following essential components for effective discipleship-mission training programs. All GDT programs affiliated with the Global Disciples Alliance must include these essential components in their training:

1. Intimacy with God: Understanding intimacy with God; solitude—time alone with God in prayer, fasting, meditation, worship, and forgiveness; overcoming hindrances; hearing and obeying God

2. Holy Spirit Empowerment: The person of the Holy Spirit; the gifts and ministry of the Holy Spirit; the fruit of the Spirit in daily living; spiritual warfare and deliverance

3. Right Relationships: Right relationship with God; forgiveness and inner healing; Christ-like relationships with others; being ambassadors of reconciliation

4. Biblical Truth: The authority of Scripture; biblical interpretation and application; the discipline of Bible study and meditation; the centrality of Jesus Christ

5. Dying to Self and Living for Christ: The call for discipleship; dying to self; whole-life stewardship; obedience and fullness of life

6. The Kingdom and the Church: Kingdom citizenship; the Church and disciple-making; our place and identity in Christ; functions within the Body

7. Evangelism and Compassion: Preaching the Gospel and being a witness; compassion for those in need; evangelism and discipleship; Christ’s commission

8. World Missions: The heart of the missionary God for the nations; understanding and reaching across cultures; world religions and cults; the uniqueness of Jesus Christ

9. Multiplying Churches: God’s design for His church; God’s desire for multiplication; challenges to plant churches; practical steps from New Testament church principles

These are required essential components for any GDT program seeking to train and multiply Christ-like disciples and church planters.

3.ጤናማ ግንኙነት፡ከእግዚአብሔር ጋር መልካም ግንኙነት፣ ይቅርታና የውስጥ ፈውስ፣ ከሌሎች ሰዎች የክርስቶስን የሚመስል ግንኙነት፣ የዕርቅ አምባሳደር መሆን፣

4.መጽሐፍ ቅዱሳዊ እውነት፡ የእግዚአብሔር ቃል ባለስልጣንነት፣ የመፅሐፍ ቅዱስ አተረጓጎምና አተገባበር፤ የመፅሐፍ ቅዱስ አጠናን ሥርዓትና ማሰላሰል፣ የክርስቶስ ማዕከላዊነት፣

5.ለራስ መሞትና ለክርስቶስ መኖር፡ ለደቀመዝሙርነት ጥሪ- ለራስ መሞት የህይወት ባለአደራነት፣ መታዘዝና የህይወት ሙላት

6.የእግዚአብሔር መንግስትና ቤተክርሰቲያን፡ የእግዚአብሔር መንግስት ዜግነት፣ ቤተክርስቲያንና ደቀ-መዝሙር ማድረግ፣ በክርስቶስ ውስጥ ያለን ሥፍራና ማንነት፣ በአካል ውስጥ ያለን ተግባር፣

7.ወንጌል ሥርጭትና ርህራሄ፡ ወንጌሉን መስበክና ምስክሮች መሆን ርህራሄ ለተቸገሩ፣ ወንጌል ሥርጭትና ደቀ-መዝሙርነት፣ ክርስቶስ የሰጠው ተልዕኮ

8.ዓለም አቀፋዊ ተልዕኮ፡ የእግዚአብሔር ተልዕኮአዊ ልብ ለህዝቦች ባህሎችን መረዳትና ባህል ዘለል የወንጌል አገልግሎት፣ የዓለም ሃይማኖቶችና ስህተት ትምህርቶች፣ የክርስቶስ ኢየሱስ ልዩ መሆን

Only you can answer this question. Use the following self-assessment checklist to address areas and issues to discuss with your cluster of churches and leaders as you consider getting involved with the Global Disciples Alliance.

Checklist for Prospective New Programs

1. Do we recognize the need for and benefits of this kind of global cooperation?        

2. Are we prepared to contact and work with a Global Disciples Facilitator and members of the Alliance to achieve common goals, to fulfill the mission Jesus has given us?

3. Do we support the vision, mission, and core values of Global Disciples?

4. Are we willing to own and run our planned GDT program by providing the finances needed, by appointing a director, and setting up a local council to oversee our program and its director?

5. Are we willing to send our program director to the two-week GDT Directors Training and to the Annual Equipping Event?

6. Are we willing to initiate, encourage, and support church planting?

7. Do we understand and embrace the Membership Criteria in the Alliance (see page 14)?

8. Are we willing to assist new training initiatives by giving at least two percent (2%) of our program’s total annual expenses to the Alliance Funds?

9. Are we willing to participate in periodic assessments of our GDT program?

10. Are we willing to respect and trust the Alliance Facilitators and other Member Program directors, and openly share our program information and experiences with them?

Our discipleship-mission training model is built on principles found in God’s Word and the example of Jesus Christ, including:

God’s longing: God longs for a close, personal relationship with people of every language, culture, and ethnic group (John 3:16-18; Romans 5:6-10).

Jesus as the only Lord and Savior: He is the only way, the reason and the model for life and ministry (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).

Holy Spirit empowerment: The Holy Spirit empowers each believer to live a life of discipleship, witness, mission, and service (Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:16).

Biblical authority: The Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God; it is the basis for equipping disciples of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Disciple-making in the way of Jesus: In a cycle of teaching, applying, and reflecting, we multiply Christ-like disciples as Jesus did (Matthew 10:25; Mark 3:13-15).

Growing as Disciples of Jesus Christ

At the heart of Christian discipleship is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That relationship grows and is nurtured through:

Knowing God, as revealed most fully in Jesus Christ, through the Scripture, by the Holy Spirit, and through fellow believers in the Body of Christ (Philippians 3:7-12).

Seeing as Jesus sees the world, the people around us, those who are unreached, and our own situations (John 4:34-36; Matthew 9:36-38).

Doing the will of God, as confirmed by the Scripture, the Spirit, and the counsel of fellow believers. We are called to do whatever we do in the name of Jesus (Colossians 3:17).

Being in Christ daily, learning to rest and remain in Him, and to draw life from Him. Jesus tells us that we will be His friends if we do what He has commanded (John 15:1-17).

Bearing fruit that will last, as we make friends for Jesus Christ from many nations around the world by loving as He loved (John 15:16-17).

• መፅሐፍ ቅዱሳዊ ሥልጣን፡መፅሐፍ ቅዱስ በእግዚአብሔር መንፈስ በመነዳት መጻፉ፣ ሥልጣን ያለው የእግዚአብሔር ቃል መሆኑን ሰዎች ለኢየሱስ ክርስቶስደቀ-መዛሙርነት ለማስታጠቅ መሰረት መሆኑ (2 ቶሞ 3፡16-17)፡፡
